The Film Week takes place at St Albans Cathedral from 29 October to 2 November, 2024 and celebrates the 10th anniversary of the St Albans Film Festival with an exciting mix of screenings, Q&As, and special events.

Following our sell-out performances of The Snowman in St Alban's Cathedral in 2023, Carrot Productions are delighted to be asked to return with two of our fantastic family-friendly shows combining film, live music, interactive storytelling, hands-on workshops and arts & crafts activities.

Tuesday 29 October sees two performances of Musical Beasts (featuring Peter and the Wolf and The Bear and the Piano). Then, on Wednesday 30 October there will be two performances of Wallace & Gromit: A Matter of Loaf and Death. All shows last 45 minutes.

Both shows feature music composed and/or arranged by award-winning composer, Daniel Whibley, whose credits include CBeebies’ Musical Storyland and The Musical Story of the Gingerbread Man. The musical force behind Carrot Productions’ shows, Daniel has been making waves in entertainment and education.

The musicians bringing the music to life in both the ensemble and orchestra are world-class – drawn from the Hallé, BBC Philharmonic, and BBC Concert orchestra amongst others. After each performance, families can chat with the musicians, learn about their instruments, and even enjoy their own music requests.

Musical Beasts

Featuring a unique, live staged performance of Prokofiev’s classic children's story Peter and the Wolf, brought to life by our brilliant costumed musicians, followed by an animated adaptation of David Litchfield’s award-winning book, The Bear and the Piano, featuring narration recorded by Joanna Lumley and original music by Daniel Whibley.

The music will be played live by our wind quintet and piano ensemble, drawn from Carrot Productions’ acclaimed The Snowman and Wallace & Gromit shows. This event promises to be a delightful treat for families. To make the adventure even more special, families can arrive early for free art & craft activities and stay afterwards to meet the musicians and explore their costumes and instruments up-close.

Dressing up is encouraged, and there will be a prize for the best beastly costume!
