"Top things to do at Christmas"

Becca Thompson

Rebecca was inspired to play  by Nancy Elderkin ,her Granny, who had played violin in the local cinema orchestra . Her teenage years were happily spent playing quartets at Pro Corda in Suffolk where her love of chamber music took hold and was followed by study at the RNCM with Eli Goren and in Chicago with Schmuel Ashkenazi.

After her studies she began  playing with many Orchestras across the UK. Being a freelance player has taken Rebecca all over the world, playing all sorts of genres of music from Henry Mancini to Meatloaf and George Michael. She is a member of Manchester Camerata and the Northern Chamber Orchestra and loves playing in the huge variety of repertoire they provide. These orchestras also have lively learning and participation programmes where Rebecca has had the opportunity to share music making and collaboration in diverse range of settings with all ages and abilities.

Rebecca has always had a passion for teaching and is currently the Artistic Director of the In Harmony project based in Telford and Stoke where 770  Primary age children are being given the opportunity to learn instruments inspired by the El Systema model of Venezuala.

Becca is married to a musician, has three music loving children and a guinea pig who happily spends most of his time outside in the quiet eating broccoli stalks.
